ULA Pack fits strange in the shoulder – thoughts?

My ULA Circuit came in today, and it's a wonderfully made pack. However, it hangs off my shoulders quite a bit, even when the straps are tightened. It carries correctly on the hips, so I don't think it'll pose a problem, but if anyone could add any insight I'd like to hear it!

Id say the torso looks too short. You want the shoulderstraps about even with the top of your shoulders, or slightly above. If its shorter, the pack will hang away from your back, and require use of load lifters.

The load lifters don't change anything. I tried on my girlfriend's (size medium, same pack) and it looked to be a much better fit in that area – perhaps mine is too long, not too short?

Can you post a pic wearing the smaller pack? Having similar issues with a different pack and think I need to go with a smaller/shorter pack too.

I think your right it looks to long/big in the torso meaning I think where the shoulder straps attaches to the backpack should be lower. I had the same issue with a MLD pack I bought had to return for a smaller torso.

I would send that picture of you wearing your backpack to ULA and see what they say.

Try bending the stay so that the upper ~6" below the shoulder straps hugs your back. Definitely not too large a pack, and possibly a hair on the small side, but should be fine.

I'd say the first (larger) pack is the correct size, but…

1. You need to take out the center aluminum stay and bend it closer towards your shoulders, then…

2. You need to really tighten the load lifter straps.

With loose load lifter straps my Circuit fits much the same way. The carbon stays at the side don't especially want to bend in to the top of the back. Tightening the load lifter straps draws the upper pack in as well as taking weight off the shoulder. The shoulder straps may lift a bit, but that just gives you the flexibility to adjust how much weight you want on or off your shoulders.

Thank you all for your insight, I'm thinking that bending the stay is what will have to be done. I'm also talking to Chris from ULA and after fiddling with the straps and lifters, I've made it a little more natural. I'll wait to see what he says on the stay bending, but for now here's the fit, and for comparison, the size medium/medium in the same pack as requested.

Take the stay out, bend it to match the curve of your lower back, and curl over slightly toward your shoulders at the top.

Remember that with the pack heavily laden, its going to sag more. This is where having a torso length a bit longer helps to keep wt off your shoulders.

the problem with being on the edge of a med torso length, is that the next size is much longer, possibly too much.

try the pack heavily laden as well, looks like you have a pillow in it
