I have a Montbell Versalite rain jacket that was smushed together with some smelly hiking gear. Since it stank pretty bad I decided to “super” wash it in hot water (yes, in hindsight, I foolishly ignored the instructions which said warm water). While the jacket now smelled fine, I unfortunately learned that hot water and seam tape are not friends. Throughout the jacket, the seam tape has loosened somewhat in many spots to varying degrees though its still all there. So I am looking for some advice on how and if its worth repairing and if the jacket can still be trusted in the backcountry. I called Rainy Pass and they said it would cost between $75 -150 to completely replace the tape which is not worth it given it’s a $150 jacket. Also, note I am not interested in attempting to fully re-tape it myself using replacement tape. I am thinking to perhaps apply some sort of glue under the tape and hoping someone has some past successful experience and know how they can offer. thanks

I have had good luck with seam grip. Coat the tape and the jacket, let dry until 'tacky' and stick together. I have had pretty good luck on a couple of jackets
Any reason why I need to work with the tape? Why not just apply seam grip on the seams and leave it at that? If I need the tape, how long does it need to dry to get tacky? Why not just apply seam grip to the seams and affix the tape to the seam grip (seams mess prone to apply to the tape separately)? I have never used seam grip so any info you can provide would be helpful in guiding me to make the best use of it and/or not make any mistakes. thanks
Can you just remove the seam tape? Or, just where it's loose?
Seam grip over the exposed seams, and over any tape that's still there.
Dry overnight.
Then, you have to coat with a powdered substance, like talc, or wall joint compound, or clayish soil,or … Rub it on.
If you don't do this, the seam grip from different places will stick to each other and nor release. It will peal off the fabric on one side. (Then you can reapply seam grip so it's not a total loss – ask me how I know : )
Well, I had found that my old rain jacket had tape that loosened after several days in heavy rain. When I got back I sat in front of the TV and stripped ALL the tape off. Then I coated the whole jacket with mineral spirits and silicone. This was a couple years ago. It never breathed well, since it was coated on one side with PU. But the mix applied to the inner seams and all the outer jacket held well. It still has the Eddie Bower label on it. I believe I used about 7-1 by volume mineral spirits/silicone. I had that stuff around so it cost about $2 and my time. It used to weigh about 7oz, now it weighs about 9oz. A bit heavy, but not real bad considering it is 15 years old.
