SMD meteor bivy

I made one for use on the AT last summer, it was a perfect match for my MLD poncho tarp, i made a couple of tweeks on it like a mesh opening for the footbox which is nice on the hot nights. i also added a skirt of silnylon around the perimeter of the bug netting (thats connected to the zipper) to enchance the splash factor and wind ristance some. i highly enjoyed the mesh opening for the foot, because i could vent the bivy further and cool off me feet. but if it was rainy out i could cinch it shut to help with spindrift. for materials i used nanosee-um netting, silnylon bottom and momentum top. i'll try to get you some weights, but im still waiting for my new scale… once you make a paper cut out, its fairly easy to make.

im soon to make one similar to it. it will probably end up being a silnylon bottom, 1/2 1.1 dwr nylon, 1/2 noseeum bivy with a top entry zipper (MLD bug bivy style) and hang loop directly above my face. I plan on using it with my poncho tarp when buggy and in AT shelters to keep mice off my face (a very rude awakening).

how high did you go with that skirt?

I made one about a year or so ago. I used silnylon for the bottom, no-seeum netting, and 1.1 oz nylon for the top. The only tweek I made was to coat the silnylon using Jim Woods method described here: http://jwbasecamp.com/Articles/Silnylon1/index.html

Total weight = 9.5 ounces

I made one last summer. I used epic on top and spinnaker on the bottom with nanoseeum mesh and a teensy weensy bungee to suspend the netting.

Weight = 8oz with spinnaker stuff sack, seam sealed.
