Looks like a great trip. His long did it take to build a snow cave big enough for 2? Hope to get out to try it before the season is over.

In general, a quick and dirty emergency shelter takes ~1 hr per person.
Something more elaborate that is base camp quality takes longer. Our shelter was about the size of a very generous two person tent complete with a cold sink in the middle of the sleeping platform.
A less efficient, but serviceable, shelter would be much simpler and quicker.
But part of the trip was acting like my 10 yr old self and building the coolest snow fort (cave) ever. :)
