Tony, I am waiting delivery of my MLD Cuben Solomid (I am fascinated as well :). My plan is either the Borah Bug Bivy or the MLD Solo Innernet. I pretty certain the MLD Bug bivy wouldn't really work inside the Solomid due to it's shape.

I have been using a Tarp/Bivy (GG Spinntwinn with bug shelter) combo for a couple of years now and am intrigued by the full protection and general wind shedding potential of a mid and so am going to try that route and compare. I expect by the end of this coming summer I will part with either my Tarp/Bivy or Solomid.

Randy,

Let me know how it goes with your setup.

I checked out the Borah Bug Bivy and the only concern that I have is that it would be nicer if the bathtub floor was a little higher to block out water that might run through the mid if the rain gets heavy and you are on a slope.

I do like the idea of the MLD bug bivy for use with a tarp for the adding space to move around vs. the limited space of the bivy.

Tony: just a reminder that the bug bivy pairs very nicely with MLD's Patrol Shelter.

Cheers

"wouldn't it be great if the netting to this bivy were sewn to the edges of my tarp? It would give me a lot more room AND probably be lighter than the combo."

Of course, then you can't wear your tarp as a poncho. :)

Duane,

Noooo!

Don't make me think anymore…..it hurts, the pain, the pain! :)

Good point about the Patrol Shelter and the bug bivy.

Just a great reminder of all the wonderful options that MLD gives us to spend our money.

From my experience with the bivy sack that I've tried, the fabric lays flat to the ground when you're not in it. IF you have a loop that is pulled up and away from your face, there is usually a section that isn't tied to the top or, in the case of the MLD bivy, the top entrance is easy to pop your head out of, reach up and unhook the tie pulling the mesh up and get out. I hope that explains it better? Maybe finding a YouTube video of someone getting in and out would help more…
