anyone find a lwt cup that nests nicely in a SP700? do they make non-tapered foam cups- a cheap styrofoam cup of the right dimensions would be perfect if there is such a thing??????

Hi Mike,

I don't know the brand any longer, but the HDPE jar that some glucosamine tabs (from Sam's club) came in works perfectly.

Cut the top off w/scissors just below the taper toward the lid and a perfect cup/mug is yours for free. Add a lightweight neoprene cozy and it's insulated too!

Any hdpe bottle will hold hot liquids.

good idea- I have a glucosamine jar from Costco, probably the same- I'll check it out!

edit: I just tried it out and it fits perfectly and I mean perfectly- it fits so snugly there is even a slight vacuum effect :)

the cup/bowl works great- I cut mine to 500 ml, the small fuel canister fits w/ ease- the cup weighs 1.4 oz and I think the HDPE is darn near indestructible

the fit is absolutely perfect- like it was made for it!

I'm so glad it worked out for you, Mike!

A cut off smartwater bottle should fit inside. I use a cut off 1 liter(I think it's 1 liter, the larger bottle) to slip tight into the top of my sp 600ml pot so it should fit right inside of the 700ml. I can give it a try tomorrow as I have a 700ml so also.

I'm trying to find the same for my GSI soloist cookset. The cup that come with it is just too short. Time to walk to the local Vitamine Shoppe and compare sizes.

Matthew,

How does the Smartwater hold up to HOT liquids?

Thanks,
Todd

My insulated cup herd:

Innate Doppio double-wall stainless "tumbler," 6 fluid oz, 3.8oz weight, 2-3/4" x 3-7/8"

Innate Doppio double-wall stainless "tumbler,", 8 fluid oz, 4.2oz weight 2-3/4" x 4.5"

GSI Infinity Mug, 16 fluid ounces, 3oz weight. 3-5/8" x 4-3/8" (the new model has a neoprene loop handle that may effect the OD and/or different measurements entirely)

Mug shot

Snowpeak makes several handle-less stacking double-wall titanium mugs that would be an elegant (and expensive) solution. Note the measurements down the page: http://www.campsaver.com/titanium-double-wall-stacking-mugs

Also, I noticed that someone posted Campsaver coupon codes at http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/xdpy/forum_thread/101159/index.html?skip_to_post=856274#856274

The Sea to Summit Delta Insul-Mug might be another candidate, but I sold mine and don't have the dimensions (16 fluid oz, 4.4oz weight)

I happened to notice that my Costco multi vitamin is the same type of container as the Glucosamine one, just slightly smaller in diameter, sooooo… I got out my SP 600 pot/mug and slid in the multi vitamin one- same perfect fit, so snug there is a slight vacuum when you pull it out :)

I tried out the 700 cup this weekend on a trip, worked handsomely- just the right size for a single serving freeze dried meal or a nice cup of joe

Good stuff on the repurposed DIY cups for the SP Ti mugs, Mike.

I have been going through the same thing trying to get a short/ wide cup for the Snow Peak 600 trek bowl..I finally found it after a while – superlight (.5 oz) food saver containers from the Dollar Store.

BTW, what do you use as lids for the SP 600 and 700 mug pots???

I use ti lids from fourdog, little spendy, but they are a perfect fit and look like stock lids

I like Don's lids..;)

Actually ,when you compare rhe cost to many Aluminum Custom lids at about $10 or more, his Ti lids are not that high. There is about $4-$5 worth of Grade 2 Ti sheet in most of them..,

I use the smartwater bottle as a cup for coffee/hot chocolate and it seems to hold up just fine. You do need a cozy because it is hot to hold.

For lids, I use a 4dogs with my sp600 and a Ruta Locura with my sp700

I use the wider version of the Campbells soup in a cup with the metal ring cut off.

it doesn't fit all the way in the pot so i put my fuel canister inside, then the cup, then my stove and lighting stuff inside the cup. lid fits perfect and it all cinches up inside the mesh bag
