With hard times in the oil industry, my company has changed its vacation policy so that we can't carry over any vacation after the end of the year. So, I will need to take about 8 weeks off this year, starting now-ish. I would like to spend some of this time backpacking this summer, and maybe take the opportunity to do a little longer hike than I would usually get to do.
I don't expect to find anyone who would go with me, so this would be solo (my first!). I live in Houston, so will be traveling, most likely flying, to the destination. What are some good options for me to try to line up? Wonderland trail, JMT, etc.?
I realize that time is running short to submit entries for lotteries, so I would have to just shoot for an itenerary and fill in the logistical details later. I'm pretty flexible on travel dates, so at least there is that.
Any ideas that would suit the following:
-Probably solo
-Reasonably accessible from an airport
-8-12 mile days, 15 miles max
-Awesome scenery, of course
Thanks for your input!
