So I'm looking to get a hooded down jacket. The main purpose would be around camp and sleeping. I sleep very cold.

I can pick up a Quasar Hoody for $161 right now or a Ghost Whisperer for $190.

Can anyone comment on the warmth difference? It looks like the Quasar (from what I've read) has almost 4 oz of 900 fp down while the Ghost Whisperer has 2.7 oz of 800 fp down. Wouldn't the Quasar be considerably warmer?

I emailed marmot a while back and they claimed the quasar is 13.1 ounces and has 2.9 ounces of down for a mens medium. That's some very unimpressive numbers for a $350 jacket.

That being said, I've seen marmot products way off on actual weight from the listed weight.

The quasar jacket is 8.4 ounces and the quasar hooded is 13.1 ounces. That's almost 5 ounces of added weight for a hood. That can't be right.

I have a 2014 Quasar Jacket and it does way right at 8.5 ounces.
Warmth is subjective of course but being a thin 123 lbs I'm good down to about 20* with an R1 hoody under static of course. It's for camp only.
Add a wind jacket and you can get a bit more.

My hiking buddy has a whisper and we are about the same on comfort.
I love my jacket but with the baffle design lets wind collapse them easily so plan accordingly.

I have an XL Quasar without hood, according to my scales it weighs 10.89oz. I also called Marmot to ask, and was told there was 3oz of fill in a Quasar. They didn't say what or if there was any difference in size or with/without hood.

Have you considered Montbell? My research for each of my two puffies always lead me to Montbell for performance/weight/price. I have the UL Down Parka and the Alpine Light Parka and could not be happier. I tried everything I could find and choose these over them all…MH, Rab, OR, Montaine, etc. etc.

The Alpine Light is $199 list, 13.3 oz with 4.3 oz of 800 fp down.
