With the recent warm spell (highs in the mid-70's), I did an overnight to Mogollon Trail #153 in the southern Gila. *WARNING: In summer the start of this trail is hot*. A 4WD is needed to cross the a major fork to reach the trailhead,…

… which moved since I was here last (Dec 2000). Ask the USFS if there's been any changes if using an older map.The constantly upward trail is really more suited to capped hiking shoes or boots …

Still scenic though. The trail is a bit faint but just follow the crushed rock..

Rewards are views west of Silver City NM

Steep descent … some trickles of water

Mogollon Creek ..

So tired from the hike, I didn't think to photo the forested flat that can accommodate many tents.
Sometimes the trail is obliterated by cattle but the waterbars show the way.

The Hoka One-One Challenger's , though comfortable, were a little softsided for this amount of rockiness, hence the duct tape as the soft rubber started some fraying (they weren't really designed for this abuse). Can't wait until their Fall 2015 line-up with more hiking shoe like designs if the feet are still bugging me.
A little primer on this is anyone is interested from the Taos paper
