Picked up a pair of kahtoola nanospikes, 4.5 oz each on my scale.
Looks like great traction and what I like is that the spikes are just
tiny studs that will not slow me down by digging in too deep. Not mountaineering gear
but just what I need in my backpack.

I've been giving them some heavy use trail-running this winter. I love them. The studs seem to be kind of cushioned – I'm not sure how it works, but they seem to be able to rectract a little bit? They have a really good feel on even a fairly minimal trail runner. Well designed product.

I've got the microspikes myself. They are incredible for the trails around here in winter. A lot of trails can be a complete nightmare without them, especially on north facing slopes.

Good find Anthony, what size are they?

Do you have a pair of Micro spikes you could weigh for comparison.

Can you guys comment on the sizing of the nano spikes relative to your shoe size and type? I wear an 11 in trail runners and the medium micro spikes are JUST a bit tight. The larges are sloppy loose. I see that the sizing recommendation for the nano spikes is larger than for the micros, suggesting that I might need a large. I would use these for running, not hiking. I like the micros for hiking. Thanks!

Stephen- Microspikes in Medium are 6.5/each- mine have have close to 2500 miles on them and still going strong (I give them a light filing before each season to keep them sharp), I can run full stride on solid ice w/o any risk (low risk anyways) w/ them which is pretty darn nice when others who are walking can barely stay upright

I'd also like to know how the sizing is on the Nanospikes are, my size 10 could go either way, the Microspikes definitely fit better in Medium than Large- you want them snug

Cheers Mike,

I have used Micro Spikes a lot and really like them, these Nano spikes could be handy for just in case trips.

Before you commit to the Nanos on a trip, test them. My Micros stay put quite well on most footwear ( everything from running shoes to hiking boots to snowboard boots). The Nanos work themselves forward under my hiking boots, however, until a good part of the forefoot plate is curling up in front of my toes. That's size large Nanos on size 11.5 mid-weight hikers. It may be particular to the sole of the boots. The Nanos seem to stay put better on some running shoes I have.

Good to know Philip.

I was expecting the Nanos to be a scaled down version of the Micros, but they look
to be a much different type of traction decice.

I'm going on a trip to Yosemite next weekend and I'll try out the nanospikes and let you know but there may or maynot be much snow.
