Hi all,

I've decided to get a Rain Jacket made because I can't get the features I want off the shelf.

So my choices are Luke's Ultralight in event or Foxwear in Neoshell. but which one?

I work in Outdoor Education and am in the field around 150+ days a year so I need something fairly durable.

Seems like it'd be hard to go wrong with either. The Foxwear stuff *might* be a little more rugged than LUL, since the main focus of LUL is of course, going light. That said, it looks like LUL just came out with more rugged eVent pants, maybe he could make you a jacket of that if you wanted to go w/ LUL.

Since both offer total customization, maybe it just comes down to which material you prefer, and who's pricing is more reasonable to you.

If it were me it would come down to this:

I know what eVent is, whereas I have no idea what Neoshell is.

Now, granted, that's an internal argument- not a very convincing bit of logical reasoning.

So what is Neoshell? The Polartec website (as is typical for marketing bullshytt) is rather uninformative. Evidently it isn't PTFE, so what is it?

Also, it's be pretty hard to slap a piece of duct tape on a stretchy fabric as a field repair. And unless you're doing something very athletic (skiing, trail running, etc.) then I'm not convinced that a stretchy softshell is that big a deal.

I'll give Luke a plug. I have several items from him. Real easy to work with. Goid quality. Prices are fair. I have ordered several items from him, including the event pants which I have yet to use. The feel and fit are good. For me, the inseam was a little short. Something I wish I had adressed beforehand. They are still a better fit than many of the hiking pants I've tried.
In ordering my rain shell, I did address the sleeve length as well as the body length. It is a very good fit.
The other outfit and fabric, I have no comment on. I'm sure they'll work with you. Personally with a bit of a bias to someone that I've done good business, I'd make my choice on the fabric. I'm happy with the event.

Both eVent and Neoshell are in the same ball park on breathability IIRC. I think the eVEnt Luke uses is 3 layer so I think durability will be close between them. Price difference? Weight?

I own a couple items from Luke and like them both. Quality, fit and pricing were all good. No experience with Fox.

I have used event for about 6 years and really like it, though I recently
used a Neoshell Jacket and bib on a snowshoe overnighter and it is a bit more bretahable.

***Edited to change Event to Neoshell***

"I have used event for about 6 years and really like it, though I recently

@ Stephen M:
The above sentence does not make much sense.
You say that eVent is more breathable than eVent?
Or perhaps you meant to say that you recently tried Neoshell garments and found them more breathable?

Just a personal anecdote, no hard facts to back it up, but I have as well used a Neoshell anorak as a rainshell during the last year, and felt it breathes quite a bit better than the eVent REI Kimtah.
All of my use was in 30°F to 65°F weather, with a (estimated) relative humidity of 70% to 100%.
