I’m looking for suggestions for a good ole traditional 100 weight (microfleece) top.

  • Full Zip  – To vent and probably more important to make it easy on/off because this will be a winter layer for exertion activities in the cold/wet.
  • No pockets – Don’t need them.   I need simple and light weight
  • No hood – See item #2

I’m not cheap…. cost wouldn’t deter me for the right jacket.   I already have in my arsenal a Capaline Thermal Weight top (Crew – Cap 4) and a Terramar Grid Fleece Hoody that is sort of like a poor man’s R1.

Not exactly what you seek but I got a Rab 100 weight cheapo full zip jacket for about $40 a year or two ago. It does have zipped hand pockets and a zipped chest pocket. Now I take it on most trips. It’s amazing how versatile a thin thermal layer can be; works great under a rain jacket when it’s chilly – just the right amount of warmth and it breathes very well (too well to be of much use without a shell in any sort of breeze).
It’s loose fitting and does not have a cinch cord at the bottom hem but it fits comfortably over a long sleeve top and a tee shirt (standard cool weather wear for me). I’ve ripped several holes in the fabric bushwacking and it looks like a patchwork quilt after all the patching but it still is my favorite. The R1, R2, Desna hoody and all those other fancy expensive fleeces stay in the closet and now only get to play in the winter.

Thanks….both of those will work.    The Montbell is probably sized small in my experience.    TNF may fit my short stocky frame better.
