Water in the field is not always safe to drink. We examine some of the problems which can exist, and we survey all light-weight water treatment methods for use against these problems. We also illustrate each method with at least one commercial product, but this is not meant to be a State of the Market survey of products.
In this Part 3 we will discuss actual methods and illustrate the methods with some commercial examples. Since there is a surprising amount to be dealt with, some of the methods will have their own mini-article, but they will be accessible from here. That way we keep this to a reasonable length. Feel free to read just the sections that interest you.
We repeat here, just for completeness, that this is a survey of methods, not of all the commercial devices on the market. This is not a State of the Market survey. So if you have a favourite device of chemical or whatever which is not included here, that does not mean there is anything the matter with your choice.
A lot of interesting information about water can be found on vendor web sites. Some of them are very heavy on the hazards in third world countries but regrettably light on explaining their own technology. Okay, I like to know the technical details of the products, and I tend to be a bit biased when a web site hypes the hazard but glosses over the technical details. Caveat emptor.
