I don’t necessarily consider myself an “ultra light” long distance backpacker as my base pack weight is just over 20 pounds, but one thing I stopped carrying long ago was soap. When I did carry it, it was an “eco-friendly” brand like Dr. Bronner’s or Mountain Suds, and I used it mainly for camp kitchen clean up. The problem I had with using soap for clean up was the water used had to either be filtered or boiled, and the dirty wash water had to be disposed of in the environment thus “leaving a trace” and potentially attracting wildlife. I came up with a solution that leaves absolutely no trace, doesn’t waste any water and above all is very sanitary.
