In January 2008, Roman Dial and two others completed the first permitted packrafting trek in the Grand Canyon.

They descended nine miles down the Hermit Trail, floated 62 miles of Grand Canyon rapids, and exited via the eighteen-mile climb out of Havasu Canyon.
