And hey Kevin and who ever else might actually be reading this.. if you are thinking about doing something like this, or anything for that matter.. stop thinking about it so much and wasting time, get out there and make it happen, while you still can. You can never get yesterday back and there is no promise of tomorrow!! In warmer season I prefer longer days hiking and less time in camp but in winter, I prefer shorter hikes in and lots and lots of time in camp, preferably with some wicked weather to cause me to hunker down longer!!
I love seeing the number of trips you take each year. Like everything, it’s a balancing act. I can find 5-10 minutes to think about going, looking at hot hammock tarps and Ti stove systems, but right now it’s really tough for me to find 24 hours to get away (and even harder for a weekend). I choose to attend every school event (I have twins who are sixteen and are very active in music at school) over backpacking. I choose to do music every Sunday morning for the 150 kids in our synagogue religious school during the school year. After a 60-hour work week, even though I work from home, I choose to have a quiet family dinner on Friday. I hope my previous post didn’t come off as whiny – I’m grateful for each of the trips I choose to take, just like I’m happy with my other choices. This site, and trip reports like yours, allow me to take 20-30 minute “backpacking” breaks during this phase of my life. It’s certainly not the same as getting out there, but it’s better, at least for me, than not thinking about it at all.
I am thrilled that you enjoy my trip reports and videos! I am also thrilled that you are a dedicated father and family man!! Family first for sure!! I could not agree more with you. I also love reading and watching other people’s trip reports, it does help me pass the time when I can not be out there..
