It’s time for a contest, here you can win a one-of-a-kind prototype! What you are looking at is an Ocelot MAX Windscreen for the Soto WindMaster 4-Flex. This was designed for larger pots (4.2” in diameter and larger). The design works great however, I found the manufacturing steps to be too complex to be cost effective and shelved the project. My loss is your gain. You can win this windscreen simply by entering the contest: you can enter as many times as you wish. The winner will have to pay shipping costs (Domestic or International: USPS First Class mail). The contest will end at the end of May and the winner will be randomly selected.
To enter the contest, submit a limerick on about how much you love/enjoy backpacking. It must be a limerick and you cannot use the word Nantucket (I am sure that you understand what I mean by this). You can make your submission via BPL and/or on our Facebook Page. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the opportunity
Apr 29, 2023 at 6:01 pm #3779969FYI, that is not a lymerick. Look at the Hyperlink above for the definition of a lymerick
Apr 29, 2023 at 6:06 pm #3779970Once there was a hiker
Climbing JMT
Once he got to the top of my Whitney
He needed a Windscreen to protect his fire
And get down the the valley of the shadow of sun by dawn.
Apr 29, 2023 at 6:10 pm #3779971That is not a lymerick
Apr 29, 2023 at 6:57 pm #3779990This man from Calabasas
At UCLA once taught classes
Non-lymericks he hates
but his stoves are lightweight
And he sells awesome gear to the massesApr 30, 2023 at 1:36 am #3780008When I backpack I feel so free,
And I feel more authentically me.
If I suffer sore feet
I’ll have good food to eat,
And wash it all down with some tea.Apr 30, 2023 at 7:39 am #3780013there was a young couple named kelly
they walked around belly to belly
they had in their haste
used library paste
instead of petroleum jelly
(graffiti from a bathroom)
Apr 30, 2023 at 10:48 am #3780023You may think Descartes was a ham
Or perhaps you don’t give a damn
but to those chosen few
this just might ring true
“I backpack, therefore I am!”
(can I say ‘damn’?)

All good!
May 2, 2023 at 7:58 pm #3780193There’s a spot in the mountains I go
When it’s cold and glistening with snow
I sit and I grin
As some buck ambles in
Then I slowly reach for my crossbow…May 2, 2023 at 9:04 pm #3780202There was a backpacker, oh so keen,
For trekking, he was quite the fiend.
He marveled at the marmots’ play,
And sunsets that would end his day,
With fishing flies cast out just so,
He’d catch his dinner, on the go.
His gear was ultralight and fast,
So he could cover ground with a blast,
With every step, he’d feel alive,
And leave the hustle of life behind.
For backpacking was his true love,
A gift from the mountains above.
And though his journey’s never through,
He knows the trail will see him through.
(Courtesy ChatGPT. Prompt: write a limerick about how much you love backpacking. Include marmots, sunsets, fly fishing, and ultralight gear.)

May 3, 2023 at 10:43 am #3780215If that is what ChatGPT can do, I am not impressed.
May 3, 2023 at 11:01 am #3780216Was going to comment: ChatGPT apparently does not know what a limerick is :)
May 3, 2023 at 1:34 pm #3780223Oh, just wait until it freezes your bank accounts in return for slandering its writing ability.
Computers have great memories.
I love and trust ChatGPT.
May 3, 2023 at 3:10 pm #3780225“I love and trust ChatGPT.”
ChatGPT can’t even carry a pack
Much less do an easy canister-stove hack
It can process, predict
And giardia won’t make it sick
But aesthetics man, that’s what it lacks!May 3, 2023 at 3:38 pm #3780226I have a hard time believing AI could do that
May 3, 2023 at 4:06 pm #3780229There once was a man named Jon Fong
Who tinkered with stoves all day long
He made Flat Cat Gear
Held epic meals dear
Correct me if you think I’m wrongMay 3, 2023 at 4:17 pm #3780231One more…
To deserts or mountains I go
No matter if wind, rain or snow
I breath in the clean air
sitting in my camp chair
The best thing in life as you knowMay 4, 2023 at 5:01 am #3780252I went hiking with ChatGPT
It left all navigation to me
I was feeling distressed
‘Cause my ChatGPS
Accessed maps from 1923.
May 4, 2023 at 7:57 am #3780258Merit to poets and rascals!!
I wandered about in the Range of Light
lost in thought, I sat through the night
searching for meaning
beneath the Milky Way gleaming
suddenly realizing: Everything Was Just Right.
May 4, 2023 at 3:01 pm #3780278No merit to this rascal!
An Attempt at Thru-Hiking Rhode Island
I started my hike in Woonsocket
Ultralight with just snacks in my pocket
When I got to Pawtucket
Broke a shoe, had to chuck it
Now this thru-hike is back on the docket.
(If you don’t know Rhode Island, don’t knock it)
With this poem I am hereby disqualified for flagrant violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of the rules.
May 4, 2023 at 4:31 pm #3780281I think this is one of the best threads I have ever read on BPL since I joined in 2007!
Wit, rhyme and love of backpacking.
May 4, 2023 at 8:06 pm #3780297A high country hiker named Devin
Would backpack from eight to eleven
at which time he’d recline
enjoying views so divine
He’d exclaim “this is my stairway to heaven.”
