Has anyone taken Tiberino one pot meals on trail? They’re compact, vegan, natural and about 100 calories/ounce before adding olive oil. Downside is fuel use. http://www.tiberino.com/en/italian-one-pot-gourmet-dishes/tiberino-s-one-pot-dishes/56
While researching found that they also package for the outdoors (cook in the package): http://www.tiberino.com/en/outdoor-food-tiberino-outfood/8

Mar 16, 2018 at 9:24 pm #3525038Same and so I sent an email to the US distributor. Should also add that I bought a regularly packaged meal at a local store today and plan on doing a taste test this weekend.
Really need better variety this year…

Mar 20, 2018 at 11:25 pm #3526003These look really good! Even the non backpacking meals look pretty doable… just a little extra fuel. Where you able to find these in a store, or are they only available online?

Which local store in S.F. Bay Area??Mar 21, 2018 at 4:47 pm #3526107Just talked with a Tiberino rep. in Southern California. It may be that the Outdoor meals are not being sold here-yet. ??? His explanation was a bit confusing. He will get back to me on which stores sell the One Pot meals in the East Bay.
Mar 22, 2018 at 9:04 pm #3526410Sorry for the delay in answering – gotta work the hours while the weather and conditions aren’t ideal.
I bought this at Lucca Delicatesin in San Francisco. I’ve also seen it at Mollie Stones. Both places have a stand alone cardboard display that is clearly set up by the rep. I would imagine they’re at many more stores.
I cooked a package of the linguini sorrentina over the weekend and learned a few things:
- It’s very difficult to get it out of the package. I think if I take it on trail I’ll repackage it the day before leaving.
- The noodles are long and slow to cook into the 750ml of water with 4tbs olive oil. If repackaging I plan on cutting them in thirds to cook easier on trail.
- While the flavor is good, it’s also a bit bland. Needs salt, which is odd because it’s 437mg of sodium per serving. Adding cheese helped.
Given the above I’m going to try making more of my one one pot pastas with my choice of noodle and sauce I cook and dehydrate. If Tiberino gets back to me with a source for the outdoor version I’ll give it a shot.
The following two images are the package after finally getting the contents out and the pasta cooking. For reference, that pot is about 7″ across and the water was about 1.5″ deep when beginning to boil.
Mar 28, 2018 at 8:50 pm #3527550I haven’t received a phone call or e-mail from the Tiberino rep. in California. Too bad he is not interested in helping us find these products locally.
