I founded FLAT CAT GEAR, designed and manufacture the Multi-Fuel Stove; this deal is only available to Backpackinglight readers ($5 off), limited time offer, yada, yada, yada.
It takes the proper stove design to burn isopropyl alcohol without generating soot or smoke. The key it to adjust the stove for the right air to fuel ratios. The benefit to isopropyl alcohol is probably the cheapest, safest and most readily available form of alcohol. It also has a high energy density: Isopropyl – 12,900, Ethanol – 11,700, Methanol – 8,419.
This offer is being made to help convert those of you who think that isopropyl is a dirty fuel. The stove is made of Stainless Steel and weighs 33 grams. Â Click here for the link to the offer.
We spent year developing the Multi-Fuel (ISO-Clean) stove and consider it a fair weather stove. Below 35 F, it can be difficult to light, additionally, above 5,000 feet the output drops off. Even though the energy density is high, the stove burns slower than a comparable denatured alcohol stove. For larger pots, the stove works best with 91% rubbing alcohol, for mugs 70% is ideal. 99% and HEET in the RED bottle can be used but must be watered down.HEET int he RED bottle Left                            HEET int he YELLOW bottle Right
We call it the Multi-Fuel stove as it will also burn denatured alcohol, gel alcohol, hand sanitizer, Sterno and yes you can burn Esbit in the stove. While being a Multi-Fuel stove, the fuel efficiencies are not as comparable to a stove dedicated to a single fuel and this stove will consume ~25% to 50% more fuel.

Jun 11, 2016 at 8:43 am #3408243We designed this stove to burn rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) without generating soot. Â Soon customers started experimenting with denatured alcohol and found that it works a s well. Â We continued to test the stove and re-branded it the Multi-Fuel stove.
The Multi-Fuel stove will burn Isopropyl, Methanol/Ethanol mixes, gel alcohols & hand sanitizer, Sterno and Esbit.  It has been used in Europe were alcohol can be mixed with a number of other fuel like gasoline, kerosene and other solvents.

I was on the fence for a while, and this is just what I needed to decide. Can’t wait to try it out!

Jul 2, 2016 at 9:12 pm #3411982Yon, what is the black disc inside stove lower right?
Can you give written instructions how to light the stove and snuff it out please?
Jul 6, 2016 at 5:49 am #3412577I’ll give an educated guess at the black disc. It’s to absorb the remaining water left after the alcohol is burned off. In the case of using HEET in red bottle, and adding 2 teaspoons of water to make it usable, 2 teaspoons of water will be left over.
I suspect it will take at least 1 minute of preheat before being able to place pot onto stove. That’s not a bad thing. Could hold the pot over the preheat flames. Nothing wasted. I like the no-spill feature of using Gelled Sterno. Hand sanitizer smells good when burning, good choice.
Jul 6, 2016 at 9:03 am #3412614The sale of the Multi-Fuel Stove has concluded, I would like to thank all of you for your support. Â Best regards – Jon
