I just replaced my older, cheaper sewing machine with the Singer Heavy Duty 44S.

I had been looking at the 4452 but the one I got was all they had on hand at the walmart.

The only difference I see is that the 4452 comes with a walking foot but the 44S does not.

I’m not sure if it will accept a waling foot, or if I need one, but I remember it being suggested reading about sewing machines here or on Hammock Forums.

From what I gather it helps with slippery materials.

Feet are easy to get. I believe that the only difference is the 4452 has more stitch patterns.

Do any of you find the walking foot helpful for sewing slick materials like silnylon, silpoly or cuban? Or very thin ripstop?

I have a walking foot on my Pfaff Ambition 1.5.  I think it was critical sewing my quilts with ultra thin material.  The first was with 0.66 membrane 10 taffeta nylon and the second was Argon 67.

    Thanks Bob.

Very nice job on the quilts.

It’s good to see the threads you used. I need to learn more about best threads and needles used for various fabrics.

BTW, I returned the SINGER | Heavy Duty 44S and ordered the 4452.

It has the walking foot as well as a few more accessories.

I sew thin material without walking foot.  Janome 4014.  Sometimes I have to hold on to the fabric to maintain tension to keep it flat.

I don’t know if walking foot would be better

I tried a roller foot and that didn’t make any difference

I’ll be experimenting and let y’all know how it goes.
