Another minor update pushed out last night. Should be live on Android and iOS. Adds an onboarding screen when you first open the app. This will help orient new users to the app. Old users will have to quickly tao through the onboarding after they update, but who know maybe it will he helpful :-)
Jun 30, 2024 at 8:46 am #3814251Adding user names! Apologies if you just went through the new onboarding screens, you will need to one more time to set your username ;-)
User names at this time just show up under the pack description on public packs in the “Find Packs” section. This is just the beginning, lots more to come :-)
Currently live on Android, Apple should be live sometime today!
Jul 11, 2024 at 5:31 pm #3814877Pushed out another update a couple days ago. Now when browsing other users public packs you can see their username in the bottom right. When you tap their username you will go to their user profile and can view all their public packs in one place.
Sep 23, 2024 at 4:19 pm #3818649Hey everyone, havent posted an update in a little bit. Took a detour to build a Travel Game app for a competition.
Now that I am back starting to add more features to Don’t Forget The Spoon! I released an update today for both iOS and Android that adds “Gear Notes” to your gear items. Now you have a free form field you can type what ever you want in. Its free form so you can add new lines as well.
Gear Notes in itself is not a huge new feature but it has been one of the most highly requested feature. While adding Gear Notes, I additionally re-wrote the entire code backend for my gear form. This wont mean a whole lot to you all the users right now, but it will allow me to add new things faster in the future for gear attributes. This will also allow me to make this a bit customizable as well. For example, a lot of users have asked for a item price field. I can add that as an option in the future, that you can toggle on and off from the settings. Basically this will allow the field to be there for users who want it and not clog up the form for those who do not want the field.
Nov 9, 2024 at 2:40 pm #3821812Added a small visual feedback to swipe to pack and un-pack items. Before you would swipe and nothing would move and then it would magically say “Packed” or the “Packed” text would magically disapear when you swiped the opposite direction.
Now when yo swipe you will see “Pack” or “Unpack” depending which direction you swipe. Then tap to confirm. This gives visual feedback to the user and prevents accidentally packing or un-packign items.
Dec 17, 2024 at 5:47 pm #3824638Fun Christmas update, if you are a pro user who has uploaded images you can now create and share your own Gear Layouts of your pack! Here is mine from my Cactus to Clouds hike:
You can select the Gear Collage from the 3 dot menu while viewing any pack. It will create the collage on all items with an uploaded image.
It initially create a randomized collage, but you can edit to your liking. Drag images to move them around, pinch and zoom to enlarge or shrink image and rotate them.
I found pinch and zoom difficult on smaller images, so you can tap an image to bring up manual controls for fine tuning. Hope you all enjoy!
Can’t wait to see what gear layouts that you all make from your adventures!
Jan 10, 2025 at 4:19 pm #3826233New update live for Android and pending approval for iOS! You can now wishlist items while browsing public packs. There have been a number of times where I have been browsing another pack in the app and thought to myself I would love that piece of gear, or that looks cool I want to look into it more. Now you can tap the item and then add it to your wish list.
Additionally while browsing others packs you would only see the gear name, manufacturer, quantity and weight. Some times you had no idea what the item was if it wasn’t intuitive from the item name. Now when you tap the item you can get all the details including item type and pack category.
Once you add items to your wish list you can find the list in the app settings!
Jan 10, 2025 at 7:12 pm #3826238Hey Mike,
Updates are looking good. Just curious any more thoughts or progress on the gear addition idea we were talking about last May?
Jan 14, 2025 at 6:55 am #3826498Josh,
I wont lie I kind of forgot about that discussion. I got a new tracker where I am tracking everything internally so I will add it to the tracker this week.
I am working on another lost comment in here right now actually. Hopefully Have dark mode released end of this week or early next week :-)
Jan 18, 2025 at 4:10 pm #3826686Just finished up my first try of dark mode! In settings you can now select dark mode! Live for android should be live for iOS in a day or two once approved!
Jan 18, 2025 at 5:10 pm #3826687Mike,
First glance it looks great!
Reminded me in pack weight of lb and oz, what that means bc it doesn’t show say 12lb 7oz which is what I think of as lb and oz
Jan 18, 2025 at 7:29 pm #3826692Josh,
Glad you like the dark mode so far! As for the lb and oz setting that means anything a pound and over shows up in pounds. Anything under a pound shows in oz.
Feb 8, 2025 at 4:48 pm #3828206This has been one of the most requested features by users. They want to see their gear list, listed by category. Worked on this most of the day today and pushed it out to the app stores. Should be live in a few hours on Android. iOS will probably be live end of day Monday.
Once the update is live in the app stores, you can enable this view by going to Settings-> Pack Order Format-> then enable the toggle for “Group Items by Category”
Feb 10, 2025 at 10:00 am #3828293Mike,
The categories looks great. now…. can you apply that to the gear locker as well? and…. when your adding gear to your pack from your gear locker?
Feb 11, 2025 at 6:28 am #3828341Josh, all thats planned for later this week or this weekend once I get some more time to program :-)
Feb 11, 2025 at 6:46 am #3828342Mike,

Feb 15, 2025 at 2:51 pm #3828546Josh, uploaded new update to the Android play store, and iOS is in process of uploading. This will add the group by category view to the gear locker, shared packs, and the add gear view :-)
