So I recently unpacked our storage unit which has been sealed up for about 6+ years and came across my two MSR Titan (titanium) fuel bottles. So that is the 300ml and 800ml small and large bottles. It was really good to handle them again as they are beautifully simple pieces of metal craft. However I was SUPER DISAPPOINTED when I tried to pair them with my Primus OmniLite Ti stove pump which has a different thread and was too long (the straw part) for the shorter bottle.

Does anyone know if I can get a different pump assembly for my Omnilite Ti that WILL work with the MSR bottles? Could I bastardize an MSR pump to work??

Much appreciated for your advice and

    Thanks a bunch!

I believe you can modify an MSR pump. They just pressurize the fuel so it can leave the bottle. But, you will have trouble with the crimped connections. For all the trouble and fooling around with it, I would just get a couple new bottles.

I have been hoping to make the mod to use the MSR pump with the Primus omnilite Ti.

My plan was to take a fuel line from an MSR whisperlite universal and find a way to attach a screw fitting to screw onto the hose junction on the primus.  I felt like this would allow me to keep the primus hose intact in case i want to go that route while also allowing me to use the MSR pump.

I was wanting to do this for two reasons:

First, all the stoves I use at work are MSR.  Thus parts are very easy to get for the pump should I need it and on group trips, I would be using the same pump and hose as the group, so again, redundant parts.

Second, the MSR pump is lighter.   I am kinda baffled why Primus went to all the work to make such a light stove and then have such a heavy lindal valve assembly and pump.

The difficulty with my mod idea has been finding the appropriate threaded female fitting for the MSR hose.  I haven’t tried reaching out to community on classic camps stoves or Hikin Jim on Adventures in stoving as these guys might have some good recommendations.

Thanks guys. Both James and Garrett suggestions/advice is helpful. This will probably be one of those perpetiual projects.

The idea of putting an MSR pump in a Primus fuel bottle, or vice versa, would probably make the company lawyers on both sides have a fit. Death and destruction would surely follow. :-)

The problem is, IF I remember correctly, that both threads are about the same diameter but with a different pitch. Painful. If you can find a hobby machinist nearby you could ask him if he could make an adapter out of (say) nylon). It would not be easy as the pump has to go through the adapter. Caution: this might not work if the clearances are poor.

Your best alternative is to switch to a canister stove: lighter, faster, cheaper, safer … (OK, I’m biased.)

    Cheers

    Cheers Roger!

I never thought of an adapter piece. Great suggestion.
