Well I finally gave it a try.

Holy crap, it was so easy and just slices through anything up to an inch with ease. I can’t imagine any other tool to be anywhere near as effective for these brambles. Giant mass of bramble in the way? No problem. Give it a couple slices and use the machete to fling it aside. Specific 3/4″ branches? Even easier. Aim for each one and it just slices through like butter.  I can alsoalso it to kinda toss aside the sticks. The one thing it’s not good for (at least on a first try) is stuff close to the ground. Gotta stomp that stuff and I still got some nettles, but nettles don’t bother me that much.

Also it really wasn’t tiring at all. I only used it for ~45 minutes, but it doesn’t take much muscle.

    Aaron,

I don’t know much, but I do know there’s nothing stopping you and your machete.

    Chop on sir.

Locale: Southern Los Padres National Forest

Report back with how it does on trail? I live near the Southern Los Padres (San Rafael/Dick Smith Wilderness), and have thought about bringing my machete (used primarily for farming) to clear some of the overgrown trails back there.
