I don’t see a search box in this new forum layout.  It could be hiding.  Has it been removed for us basic members?  I could not search to see if this had already been answered.      Thanks,  Ken.

Its cleverly disguised as a magnifying glass icon, but it works pretty well.

THanks…I think.  I see the magnifying glass in far upper right corner.  I tried to search the MYOG forum but it seems to only search the main website and not the MYOG forum.

Is there a way to search a particlar forum?  Maybe I should be posting this question somewhere else?

    For example, search “MYOG bivy”

then in the search results click “forums” at the top of the results

Once again, thanks.  However when I do that I get only one myog bivy result and numerous other articles..  A search used to work within a forum but now does not.  It appears that functionallity is now impaired.  Sigh.

If you are seeing articles instead of forum posts the search might be broke in your device ?   I get all forum posts, and mostly myo posts, with some myog in gear swap.

    so I searched

    gearswap solomid xl

but the results that come back are not listing solomid’s by date in descending order so it’s hard to find the solomid I saw last week for sale instead I see solomids that are much older.

is there a way to search the gearswap and see the latest solomids for sale etc?

It would appear that there are “issues” with this new website make-over.  There have been other members reporting problems with searching also.

You could add your question to the bug reports.  Try the link below. (insert link didn’t seem to work either.

Has the issue of searching within forums been figured out yet? I can’t see how to search.

It would be a bit easier if there was one standard, and everyone followed it (there are two, FS or WTS for selling items, WTB might be the only one for want to buy, and some folks can’t be bothered to put either FS or WTS in their subject line).

But if you call up the search box via the magnifying glass, and then type in, for example, “kalais fs” without the quote marks, you’ll get mostly kalais for sale in gear swap and not much else. Narrows it down quite a bit.

This only really works for gear swap though.

but how do you make it list chronologically???? i’m seeing sh*t from 2010 2012.  just ridiculous that this is even a problem.

You can sort by date, you just need to do the search on google instead of on BPL.

Say you want to find articles on MYOG bivy (as used above)

So, if your browser is configured to use google as the default search engine, open a new tab and type (without the quotation marks) “MYOG bivy site:backpackinglight.com” (ensure there’s no space between : and backpackinglight.com)

On that results page, click on “Tools” at the top right. Then click “Any Time” (on the left) for the drop down menu. From the drop down menu choose a date range (either a date range selection or a custom date range).

After the page updates, click on “Sorted By Relevance” for the drop down, and choose “Sorted by Date”

Convoluted, I know, but it will give you results sorted by date.

doug, yes i know how to do that but its kinda besides the point. not everyone does, its really confusing and takes away from the overall experience and decreases commerce on the swap.

check out the reddit /ulgearswap search. so easy , so clean.

I really just don’t understand how you have a forum platform without decent search function.. its sooo basic.

is this the forum provider or BPL?

Well, I believe BPL uses Google Custom Search. If not, they should. If so, then they simply don’t have it set up to allow sorting results by date (which isn’t that difficult to do). I generally get the idea that whoever Ryan has building this site is kinda learning as they go and aren’t really all that proficient at website building/wordpress. That isn’t meant to be an insult, just a feeling I get from the many issues this site has had (and continues to have) since the ‘upgrade’.

Searching in the search box gives me zero results. It will just take me to another page with a larger search box with the same search topic still in it. No results. Searching for topics that I know exist here. Contacted Support back and forth many times with no results as well.

    On Google, site://backpacking light.com <search query>

    Also great for image searches.

Thanks, I’ve seen this method mentioned several times and have unfortunately defaulted to this for the time being. Beating an apparent dead horse but I feel we shouldn’t have to resort to that.
