Sam has written a very good impartial summary. I like it.
With regard to all the ‘reviews’ you find out there, I will add one observation. Many ‘reviews’ in magazines and on web sites are what we call ‘desk reviews’: that is, they are done at a desk, without any field testing. You may find that many of these desk reviews are in relatively close proximity to large advertisements for the same product, especially in print magazines. I leave it to the reader to think about that!
To the best of our ability, BPL does not ever publish desk reviews. Yes, we have been solicited at times, but I won’t, and Ryan has some pretty strict rules about reviews as well. We have occasionally published a survey of what was seen at the latest Outdoor Research show (OR), but they are not presented as reviews.
I will say that putting the membrane on the outside of a garment where it will get ripped up by the scrub is in my humble opinion a fundamentally stupid idea. A generic comment, not aimed at any particular product.
We do welcome opinions from all.
Cheers
