Roger, I was on a PC earlier.  I’m now on an iPad and can’t edit at all.  I’ll try different operating systems and browsers to see what’s up.

edit ok I see what Ken was saying earlier.  Unable to edit the original post by can edit any response I make.

What do you do when you have one flashbang and two bears?

    Cheers

My point is that flamethrowers are heavy. Also since flamethrowers are a pack themselves they seem non conducive to backpacking

Flame throwers are NOT heavy! Just remove the jet from your canister stove … and wear gloves.

Ahh … that is not actually recommended, but having had a few cheap thrills (= ‘accidents’) while developing my stoves, I speak with some experience.  :-)

    Cheers

    From a vortex burner.

Yeah, been there, done that, and it works. especially with a liquid feed.
    Oops moment …
(Don’t try it: it is dangerous! Stuff can go everywhere.)

    Cheers

    Roger,

Can we get a state of the market report on lightweight flamethrowers, or at least some MYOG threads on the subject?

Speaking of throwing flames, I better duck out of here now.

    folks …

on BPL we know that the ONLY acceptable light to blind a bear with is a ZEBRALIGHT …

anything else which is marginally heavier and marginally less efficient will simply cause the bear to blink a few times while it tries to cuddle with you …

and never use a PETZL lamp … according to BPL lore, bears think they are “pretzls” and you are the tasty filling … course thats especially true in places like the high arctic where folks use em and polar bears have yet to develop a taste for chinese “zebras”

thats all there is to it

    ;)
