I’m 5’11, 200# with a 42 inch chest and 33″ waist.
According to their size chart I’m a medium, but after watching some review videos, I’m suspecting I’d be happier with a large.
Can anyone aid in sizing tips? Or what is your experience? (Your measurements are always helpful!)
May 6, 2022 at 7:06 am #3748576They run SUPER large and square’ish boxy. After measuring myself and comparing the actual garment measurements to mine, I determined my size, Small, I’m normally a Medium. I ultimately went with their verbal & onsite recommendations against my own insight, which was to go with Medium. After making a custom order for the vest it fit me like an XL normally would. With that, I feel the Small would have fit much better, but still would be large on me. If you want a garment to fit properly I wouldn’t suggest this line. Go with Montbell or similar. As for the Quality of the EE Torrid, it was absolutely spot on. I was sad I couldn’t keep it. Took a loss on it since you can’t get full refunds on custom orders. And you pay shipping both ways.

May 6, 2022 at 12:11 pm #3748595I’m 6′-0″, 175#, 42″ chest, 33″ waist and the medium generously fits me.
May 6, 2022 at 3:36 pm #3748607Ditto to others.
I’m normally a tight fitting medium or slightly loose large.
The EE sizing runs HUGE. I could fit my Large Montbell Plasma 1000 parka UNDER a Medium Torrid jacket.
If I bought one they run so large I would order a custom with a small chest and large arm and hem length.
I really don’t understand who EE sizes for. They are cut for fat guys with a huge gut. Not many of them into UL hiking though…
Edit – Im 6’1″, 185lbs, 40″ chest, 34×32″ pants. Normally a Medium, sometimes a large when I want room for layers.
May 16, 2022 at 11:24 am #3749495Im 6’2” 178 and have large and medium. Medium is much better. Large fits over it or over a rain jacket + midlayer. They run big

Not the Torrid, but I bought Copperfield windshirts in 10d and 7d for comparison. There was almost no difference in weight or feel. EE doesn’t say anything about thread count that I can find, so it is possible that they use more threads per inch in the lighter thread?
MVTR was slightly higher in 7d (by 7%). CFM was 50% higher (7 in 7d vs 4.7 in 10d), which might sound like a lot but probably isn’t all that noticeable while active because the overall CFMs are moderate. The 10d emitted less IR, so it should be slightly warmer (although I’m not sure that you would notice the difference).
Bottom line is that I didn’t see much benefit in the lighter thread. EE uses 10d in their standard products.
Aug 29, 2024 at 11:11 am #3817180I’m on my 5th summer with my Torrid. I’m 5′ 11″ and about 185#, big chest and 33″ waist. The medium fits me nicely over light midlayers. At 200#, I think you are getting to the upper end of a medium fit. I don’t mind an ‘athletic’ fit in my puffy, but some folks want to put more layers underneath or want a more ‘belay parka’ fit.
I got the 7d/7d custom. The fabric is holding up very well. I got one small hole on a sleeve that I fixed with tenatious tape. No problem. I really only wear it around camp or briefly when warming up when first hiking for the day or after breaks, so I am not subjecting it to many snaggy brush/rock encounters.
Overall, I like the fit and performance. Very light, compressible and durable for it’s weight in a synthetic puffy. I like the close-fitting hood. The only thing I would change would be adding a small (phone sized) chest pocket and replacing the elastic wrist openings with a folded-over lycra ribbon. Oh, and it would not kill EE to do a #5 main zipper. Otherwise, it’s an excellent piece.
Aug 29, 2024 at 4:48 pm #3817197Yeah they are definitely sized to layer underneath . I’m 5’11 , 40” chest, 32 waist and about 185 pounds. I got the medium 10d outside 7d inside and I agree medium fits more like a large, there is some extra room in the mid section but it’s not too crazy. I like the extra room because when it gets colder I can put a down vest under it without it compressing the down. I’ll admit it’s definitely not the most fashionable jacket but It’s not really as bad as some make it out to be , I think it looks fine enough . look, just because we are a bunch of Cats that like to walk doesn’t make it a catwalk out there. Am I Right?
I’ve had mine around 4 or five years now and it has served me well. I don’t hike in mine either, just wear it around camp. It is also quite comfy to sleep in.
Aug 29, 2024 at 5:47 pm #3817202At 6’3″, 170lbs, 42.5″ chest, 35″ sleeves. According to the size chart I am medium in chest, large in arm length. I ordered both and will return the ill fitting jacket. Couldn’t pass up the 20% discount. With with stock 10d/10d. I figured the 10d is less breathable, which will better suit my needs.
Sep 9, 2024 at 4:29 pm #3817838I ordered a medium and large. I am sending back the medium, keeping the large. I could make it work, but the chest and shoulders were tight-pulling the material away from the zipper. With my layers-OR Echo sun hoody and Kuiu Peleton 97, large is great with no constriction. Best part is for some reason the weight on the medium 10d/10d is 259g, the large is 261g. Only a 2g weight penalty.
