Don’t waste your time Roger. Enough things go on here without any consequences. Nobody reads the rules. One look at Gearswap makes that abundantly clear. You’ll succeed in making work for yourself that most won’t appreciate for free. And probably won’t do. People should be expected to gather facts for themselves and make up their own minds. If they want to throw money at something because some guy they only know on the Internet tells them to buy then P.T. Barnum was and still is right. Reviews still heavily rely on opinion. And we know what gets said about opinions.
Remeber the immortal words of suit sales giant Sy Sims, “an educated consumer is the best customer”
Hi Ken
Thanks for the encouragement :-)
“an educated consumer is the best customer” … but an ignorant one is the best prospect.
Cheers
“If you buy something because I like it or use it, you probably made a poor purchase decision.”
Brilliance.
Justin asked,
Then what is your motivation for writing things in the first place?
My my website is mostly for my kids and a handful of friends to keep up with what I am up to. My son backpacks and my daughter likes to go camping, and they sometimes enjoy my twisted humor. Unlike most people, I mostly use my cell phone to actually call someone. The rest of the time I turn it off. I don’t text either.
Now that BPL has rushed and put a new policy in place, will this apply to all reviews? Even those by BPL staff? I checked out a few reviews recently and did not notice any disclaimers with those articles?
Hi Chad
It’s not a new requirement – we have had it for many years.
However, you are quite right that the disclaimer has been missing from recent Reviews and Spotlights, and that is bad. (It should be at the end of the text.) Both Ryan and I missed that. I have already alerted Ryan and edit staff that we need to include the standard disclaimer at the end of every Review and Spotlight (when appropriate), and that we should add it retrospectively where it is missing.
Cheers
