    Hi everyone,

A quick question… I got back from a trip about 5 weeks ago and finally got around to unpacking my sleeping bag. To my dismay I discovered some white mold mildew sort of growth growing on it. It was a dumb move on my part, but I’d really like to clean it off. I tried to remove a bit with paper towel and water and was able to get it mostly off, but there is still a bit of a stain. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to clean this stuff off?

just be sure not to get weird chemicals into the down

does the down need cleaning anyway?  Maybe just use the standard procedure (down soap, washing machine, make sure there isn’t residual detergent in the machine before you start, fluff up in the drier maybe with tennis balls,…)

if there’s a minor stain after your cleaning, maybe just ignore it?  good enough already?

Note that MiraZyme does a good job of removing any odor from mold.  I’ve used it to remove the musty smell from scout tents.  I would wash the item with the correct soap/detergent (down soap in this case) first, however.

I just add the mirazyme to a wash, using the down soap. Does not affect the down loft or performance in any way. In fact one quilt I bought (new) had such a stink I washed it TWICE in a row and it worked very well. No more smell. I’d spot treat the area where the mildew is before washing also.
