I ordered a pair of Lone Peak 5.0’s in size 15 WIDE as soon as they were available.  I have feet that are hard to fit, and there aren’t many trail shoes that come in my monster size.  Here are my initial impressions.

First off, I have not worn Lone Peaks before. I tried a pair of Timp 1’s a while back, but they were far too narrow for my feet. I typically wear new balance shoes in size 15 4E. Length wise, I could probably do with 14’s in most shoes, but my little toes never have enough room so I size up to 15. My foot is somewhat high volume as well, so some 15 4E’s from NB do not work for me as there is not enough space for my voluminous forefoot. Even with a decently fitting 15 4E, I get blisters on the pad of my pinky toe as it slightly folds under my ring toe, and on the cap of my ring toe because it is constantly making contact with the front and side of the toebox.  Unfortunately, I have to take what I can get in the fit department.

So the 5.0’s feel pretty great in the width department. I feel like I am wearing a new balance 15 4E that has an exceptional amount of room for my toes. Pinky and ring toe both report plenty of room for width and length. The lacing and structure of the upper seems to be doing a pretty good job of locking my foot in place instead of letting it slide around.

I was a little worried about the aggressive shape of the heel as many have reported that lone peaks dig into their Achilles, but after a couple weeks of wear, I have not noticed any problem.

So far I haven’t done much more than wearing them around town.  Probably have less than 10 miles on them so far.  Right now, I think this is the best fit I have found since the NB Leadville’s.  Taking it slow right now though since this is the first pair of zero drops that have worked for my feet.  Paying attention to my occasional Achilles tendonitis.
