When placed like BPW add netting after the canopy is built (so it can no longer be sewn into the edge hems) do they just sew it right on to the perimeter rolled hem? Do they use one of two lines of stitching? I tried to look at photos on their site and don’t see any additional stitching on the outside of the hem so I can figure how how they do it without it being so obvious. I ask being because I’m building a cricket/solplex type of shelter and want to make it fully enclosed/single wall. Rolling the net into the edge hems when I’m building it is just not going to be feasible, which is what I assume Zpacks does when building their shelters, so I’m going to have to sew it on after the fact.

    Thanks!

Just sew it on to the hem after you do the first line of the rolled hem stitching.

So you think a single stitch it sufficient? I also want to ask…part of my construction really requires me to have reinforcement patches glued on before joining two of the panels with the french seam. Does anyone see an issue with gluing a separate half of the circular patch to each panel then doing my seam? Just wondering if this will somehow affect the spreading of forces since some of the patch will be rolled up in the seam.

Are you making your tent out of cuben? If so, Joe at Zpacks sell some reinforcing material with 3M adhesive already on it- just peel and stick.

No it’s silpoly but either way that doesn’t apply. The patches are usually applied after the two panels are joined but before the rolled hem is sewn. Due to the way I’m building this, I need to glue on the patches before joining the panels so part of the patches will be rolled in the French seam joining the two panels. Wondering if that will change the effectiveness of the reinforcement patches?
