    Locale: North Woods. Far North.

Mostly this is tongue-in-cheek, but here’s a link to a “As seen on TV”-style video:

    YouTube video

    Here’s the item:

The right gloves has four spikes on the fingers.  The left glove has none.  I found a new pair for $3, free shipping on eBay so WTH, I ordered a pair.  I keep an extensive collection of neoprene gloves, heavy kitchen / dish-washing gloves and synthetic work gloves around for clamming at low tide.  These might have some advantages.

    And for backpacking?
    1) they’re gloves.  Not super warm, but warmer than nothing.

    2) they’re a potty trowel.

    3) when I burn wood, a work glove is really nice when gather dry, pokey dead spruce branches.

    4) some of us backpack at sea level (Hig and Erin did 800 miles past my house and another 1000 in Western Alaska) so clamming saves food weight.

    5) gathering edible bulbs, ground squirrels and the like could save weight while you are inland.  “Indian soap root” is throughout California and lets you avoid the weight of your Doctor Bonner’s soap.

    6) I can partially fulfill some of my Wolverine fantasies.

I thought they were backcountry bear dancing gloves. Isn’t it right hand to left paw, left hand to waist?

Obviously a case of too much free time being spent indoors and too much disposable income :-)

I’d love to see someone wear these on their next JMT hike and shoot some video of everyone they pass on the trail asking them “Where are the Halflings! Argh! Find the Halflings!”
