Not being a climber but having B-C
    skiied at 11,000' and hiked/scrambled to 12,000
I've found something that helps me. It's GNC's NO2, which is timed release L-Arginine.

L-Arginine helps stimulate the creation of nitric oxide which, in turn, dialates capillaries.

I've used it for years for weight training and in 2004 found it really helped in light and fast hikes in the mountains and in Tele skiing at altitude. (For those who haven't experienced Tele skiing, it's quite aerobic).

Have any mountaineers used NO2 for increased O2 uptake at altitude?

I've heard that some experienced climbers have used Viagara above 18,000 feet. NO2 is like a "mild" Viagara in its vasodialation effects but it lasts for 8 hours W/ its time-release micro encapsulations.

    P.S.
Of course there's always "36 hour Cialis" for those worried about Climber's ED. (Elevation Disability) Hee,hee

That sounds interesting. How much is this stuff? When I go high I get a prescription for Diamox.

I have tried the Ginko but it gives my side effects almost akin to a mini anxiety attack.

Have you tried Diamox before? Similar effects?

NO2 is a gas, it's production from l-arginine produces gas, bodybuilders ingest it to get a "pump" among other things.
Large doses can cause gi distress, loose stools, and other fun things.
It can be effective but you need to try the various dose levels to find your tolerence.
It can be effective to cycle on and off it. The best sources of information is in the bodybuilder world.
Somewhere I remeber being "told" it inhibits lysine being used for herpes.
I've used it and I've used it wrong, don't lay in your tent watching your stomach rising and falling, mess around with it first in a controlled environment.

GNC sells a NO2 instruction boolket for a few bucks.

Also the bottles of tabs always have a weight/# of tabs chart.
For example, I weigh 180 lbs. and tske 4 tabs. Usually one dose of 4 tabs taken 1/2 hour AFTER breakfst is sufficient for the day unless above 10,000 ft. This means I've had time to pack my gear & get my skis on. Then I take the NO2 I shove off.

I've never had any problems whatsoever B/C I've always follwed the directions AND used them when doing weight training at home at 3,000 ft.
