This book is about David Miller, who decided he could no longer sit behind a desk and perform the job he had always been doing and instead quit and left, with the support of family and friends to walk the AT. This book introduced me to the concept of real backpacking and the AT. Before this all I had ever known was car camping in parks.
The concept of wanting to do something so badly, it has entrenched itself in my soul. Five years after having read this book I have finally begun to purchase my gear. I am a backpack and a few articles of clothing shy of my first outing and I can taste it in my mouth like my favorite food.
If you have not read this please do so. Its not a feel good story, there is plenty of woes and a few times he very nearly quits. The people he meets are incredible and jump to life off the pages. The culture and people of the AT, who care for it and its hikers are amazing. Give this book a shot, and if you don't like it. I'll buy your copy back from you.
