Dan, I prefer mugs without handles. It looks as if Russel is keen on it, anyway. I’ll wait until international shipping is available. Thanks.
Mar 18, 2016 at 10:56 am #3390052Dan sorry the pot with the handles didn’t work out. The problem is on the 550ml pot the style of handles comes to far down the side of the pot. It would be amazing if the 550ml pot would also come with handles like the 600ml pot that Toaks sells. If your not familiar with the 600ml handles the picture below should give you an idea. I will buy the 600 and send it to you for testing if you put a ring on it for me.
Mar 18, 2016 at 1:22 pm #3390124Kurt, whats the tube you use to transport the Coghlans discs in?
love the Cog’s too . less than half the price and twice as versatile!
Mar 18, 2016 at 2:49 pm #3390139Jason it is a container to carry quarters. I found it at a store called The Hobby Lobby. You should be able to find it anywhere there is a coin collector shop.
Mar 18, 2016 at 9:41 pm #3390280Kurt, send me the 600 and I’ll do the ridgeline. I’m going to order 6 and get them in inventory. Probably get some 750 also. They are popular ebay sales at toaks site.
Mar 18, 2016 at 10:25 pm #3390286I’d like to get in on the second run as well pretty please!
Mar 19, 2016 at 6:20 pm #3390442ooops! I shipped all of the 9, sorry…..thought you were no longer interested. I’ll have more by the end of next week.
Yeah well… I’m frequently on the road with my job and I’m not always in a good location where I can respond immediately. I thought responding and making payment within a day seemed reasonable but I guess money talks and BS walks. I’ve liked the products I’ve received from you up to this point but am disappointed with this particular transaction, especially when you read through this thread and see that I’m among the first to express interest. You have my cash already. Just send me a kit when you can.Actually scratch all that. Since you’ve already accepted payment but do not actually have a product you can ship to me, please start processing my refund.
Mar 20, 2016 at 6:57 am #3390526Ian, refund has been completed. I waited 24 hours, that’s fair. Ya snooze, ya lose ;-)
Mar 20, 2016 at 7:17 am #3390530BTW, all these pots mentioned by Dan will beautifully fit StarlyteXL stove…
Mar 20, 2016 at 9:07 am #3390538Ian, refund has been completed. I waited 24 hours, that’s fair. Ya snooze, ya lose ;-)
and
done. Don’t forget…..I said I was sorry.
Dan,
PayPal is showing that they are processing the refund. Now all I have to do is wait for an unknown number of days for them to actually credit my PayPal account, and then a few more days after that for them to process the transfer back to my bank account. Edit, I stand corrected. Looks like PayPal canceled the transaction so the money is in my bank.Edit, corrected again. It does indeed appear that PayPal is sitting on the money so once again, no kit and no cash. Thanks again Dan. This won’t be soon forgotten.I was going to walk away from all this but you just had to take a parting shot.
Here’s the issue. I have zero problems waiting for a product. I received Level III AR500 plates this week that I ordered in November. I routinely wait several weeks for cottage industry backpacking gear from companies that post their wait times and communicate at appropriate intervals throughout the transaction.
Here’s why this situation is different from the rest, why I will never do business with you again, and why I will direct people to any other company in the world than yours when they are looking for lightweight stoves and pots.
You sent me a link for a kit with the understanding that it was complete and ready to go, and then moved the goal posts without communicating with me that you were going to sell it to someone else. I get that $%!+ happens and people have family emergencies, but none of that was the case here. 100% of this was well within your control and you opted for radio silence instead of telling me that the active link you sent me no longer was for a kit you had in your possession.
So for me, I “snoozed” so I lost out on an opportunity to buy an upgraded windscreen for a functioning system I already own and for which there are perfectly acceptable alternatives on the market for. You on the other hand have not only lost my trust, but have lost a customer.
I’m sure your business, hobby, or whatever this is to you will be fine without me, but this is assuming you don’t behave like this with other customers. This is one data point that others will find when they research your company here at BPL. Assuming no other repeats are posted here, then this thread and my remarks will disappear into the ether. Continue to behave like you’re doing your customers a favor by taking their money, and you won’t last much longer.
FWIW, the “snoozing” you claim I was doing was me working at my job. I don’t work a 9-5 job. My shift’s start time is typically adjusted once to a few times per week and it’s not uncommon for me to start at 3am on Monday and then 10am on Wednesday. Some days I work an eight hour shift. Others I work a double+.
Again, all of this could have been avoided with a simple “I sold the kit to Bob and it’s no longer available.” I’m not mad and I’m done with all this and with you.
Edit to add: Also, had you offered something resembling a sincere apology and we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. The fact that the underlying tone of your messages was little more than “sucks to be you” and “snooze you lose” speaks volumes about the little respect you have for those you do business with and the importance (lack of) you place on your reputation. Your communication skills as a business owner need much improvement.

Looks like a simple misunderstanding that you have chosen to blow way out of proportion.
Mar 21, 2016 at 7:09 am #3390756Agreed.
Dan has been extremely helpful to me in the past. An inquiry about stoves resulted in a non-standard variation of one of his stoves that fit my needs better (I don’t know if it can really be called “custom”). Another question about the fit of one of his lids with a pot I own resulted in a free lid (I paid postage only). He’s been nothing but accommodating and pleasant with me.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience but I feel the need to share my good experiences.
Mar 21, 2016 at 7:20 am #3390757Mike / Matthew,
Duly noted. I’ve expressed interest multiple times going back to 2014 and confirmed that I was committed to make the purchase, and have purchased gear from Dan before, so I can see how he was confused as to whether or not I was a serious buyer. As previously mentioned, my experience here with Dan is just a singular data point for others to consider or ignore as they see fit with the underlying assumption that you’re all adults and can make these decisions for yourselves.
I couldn’t care less who you do business with or send money to as it’s no skin off my nose. For me personally, there are other companies I’d rather support than his.
Peace out.
Mar 22, 2016 at 7:27 pm #3391212Toaks Pots and Caldera Cones are ordered. Trail Designs has shipped already, hope Toaks ships soon.
I’ll start new threads in the Gear Deal forum. I’ll have some Toaks 600 with handles in a separate thread.
Wait till the new threads are created to indicate if you want in on a good deal.
Thanks
Dan
Mar 22, 2016 at 7:49 pm #3391216I tried a burn today. I got 19 minutes before flameout in very gusty wind. 1.5 cups of cold water boiled at about 8.5 minutes.
I’m surprised at the results. I’ve been using a Toaks 550 with handles and the Toaks windscreen with a BGET tray and Zelph’s potstand. When I got the new cone setup yesterday I realized there how minimally the cone comes up the side of the pot, probably less than 2cm. I didn’t think the minimal overlap would add much efficiency compared to my typical setup. The boil time is slightly better than I’m used to seeing. The overall burn time is where I really saw an improvement, particularly on a windy day. I usually get more like 15-16 minutes before flameout. Again, today was very gusty.
Weight for pot, lid, cone in sleeve, stove, reflector, stove container, mini zippo and stuff sack is 113 grams on my scale.
Fit and finish is very nice.
Mar 23, 2016 at 8:25 am #3391265Retracted. Carry on.
Mar 23, 2016 at 8:41 am #3391270Ian,
Why don’t you just get over it? The Paypal thing is a Paypal issue, not Dan’s fault. Take it up with PP and quit littering this thread!
Mar 23, 2016 at 8:43 am #3391271Retracted. Carry on.
Mar 23, 2016 at 8:46 am #3391272Retracted. Carry on.
Mar 23, 2016 at 9:22 am #3391280Somehow this seems appropriate.
Mar 23, 2016 at 9:47 am #3391289I’m biting my tongue trying not to say something about the way Ian is behaving.
Mar 23, 2016 at 10:29 am #3391299You know what Kurt, you’re right. No one wants to see a video of a kid committing harikari with a remote control. I even gave you a thumbs up.
Dan,
There were a thousand other ways you could’ve communicated with me in a way to make this right and where we could’ve kept all this offline. Simply manning up and offering sincere apology and we wouldn’t be here today. You chose to be awfully cavalier about the whole thing instead, and here we are.
As you are well aware, I’ve gone to bat for you in the past when another member was getting sideways with you. Did I take this too far? Yeah probably but I don’t care. Everyone around here walks on eggshells when they get screwed by someone from the cottage industry and some fairly egregious events have gone unreported as a result because they don’t want to deal with the backlash from the membership here. Unfortunately/fortunately for all involved and reading, I’m not one of those people. You may not like what I have to say but you can bet I mean it and it’s the truth as I know it.
For the record, I’m certainly not calling my dealings with you here egregious. It’s enough for me to stop doing business with you, but you do make a good product and have done a lot of good things for the BPL community. I also think it’s safe to say that after all this, I very much doubt it’ll happen again.
I’m done. Good luck with your future endeavors.
Mar 23, 2016 at 11:40 am #3391334From Ian’s bio..
“Here’s the deal… I’m the best there is… plain and simple. I mean I wake up in the morning and I piss excellence. And nobody can hang with my stuff. Just a big hairy American winning machine.”
So we got ourselves the Donald Trump of BPL huh? What do you now want to build a wall around Dan now?
What Dan did was perfectly legit.. This is the internet.. its fast paced. People flake on sh*t ALL the time. Dan knows that. He prob gets it all the time.
I wouldn’t even say that this is a cottage company transaction .. this is just a fellow bpl’er trying to make something cool for fellow members. He doesn’t owe you a damn thing Ian.
furthermore, he said he would have more by the end of the week! You live in the PNW.. you know damn well you wouldn’t use this kit until summer anyway. what are you gunna go dick around in the snow in your backyard. bfd.. waaa waaaa waaa
go post on donald trump forums where someone might take you seriously
Mar 23, 2016 at 11:44 am #3391335:)
Mar 23, 2016 at 11:53 am #3391337Well Ian is entitled to his opinion and has a right to post it here.
Name calling doesn’t get anyone anywhere, no matter how good it feels at the time.
Dan is certainly a cottage company. Zelphs Stoves Store link So not just some guy.
Obviously Ian’s profile is satirical in nature. Does anyone really discharge excellence in urine?
I too care not what you have to say about my post. Allow me to vote unhelpful myself.
Move on.
