    Nature by Numbers, Visualized.

    Pretty cool, really.

Wow, that is the prettiest demo of the Fibonacci sequence ever!

I've always wanted to tile my kitchen flow with a Penrose tiling. I may be weird but I can stare at them for a long time without getting bored. They are so-called aperiodic tilings that go to infinity without ever repeating. They kind of trick the eye because the brain, seemingly, feels like there should be a regular symmetry somewhere. Even the Fibonacci spirals have it. But then you can't quite find it in the Penrose tiling (because it isn't there) and your brain starts to feel the strain a bit.

Some people say that if you stare at a large enough one for long enough you can see a picture of Elvis.

If anyone has ever hiked a Möbius strip. Did they complete the hike? Did anyone ever see them again? Did they they write a trip report? Did they reach beyond their boundary. Enquiring minds want to know.

    Great videos!

The incredibly refreshing thing is she figured it out and explained how it works and WHY it works. I get really annoyed by the purely non-analytical new-agey people who bring this up (and always someone had to tell them about it) and never go any further, or the way more conventionally religious people will throw up their hands when they hear about it and say, "it's a mystery, only God could have done it." If God had meant for you to stop there she wouldn't have given you a brain.

Its not a mystery, it just really cool. And so is she…er…the girl/young woman who made the videos.

    Footnote: slugcats are AWESOME!

    @Nick
, it a loops hike, it just takes twice as long as you think it should. Humm, seem like I HAVE been on a few of those.

Kline Bottles are very good for SUL – why waste weight and space with BOTH an inside and an outside. I use them for my 4-dimensional trips.

Okay, I've now been watching Vi Hart videos, XOXO talk, video about making videos,…

    Amazing where technology is going

She is an evolutionary product of vlog brothers

and Khan Academy – shows that getting rich is not the only driver for innovation and creativity

Good link to Vi Hart videos http://www.khanacademy.org/math/recreational-math/vi-hart

Great. Now I need to figure out a way to explain to my wife why we needed the "finest closed, non-orientable, boundary-free manifolds sold anywhere in our three spatial dimensions."

Tell her that in 3 dimensions she can clip one to her pack with a carabiner – I'm sure she will go for it then.

I would caution everyone to be careful with these topological explorations. See Martin Gardner's paper on "The No-sided Professor" on what can go wrong and remember to always release your right hand before the left.
