I finally went with a lifeproof case and a 3.4 oz solar panel/battery. Yes the embarrassing one with orange Bear Grylls initials on it. The first thing I did, even before testing it, was to obliterate them with a black sharpie. Bob should buy one and claim he owns the company.

Anyway, I've been testing it in my backyard. It attaches very nicely to the top of my pack and I can get about a %25-30 charge back on my iphone if it is in the sun for 6 or so hours. I should state that I will have my phone turned off most of the time so this wimpy solution actually works. Also charges my camera batteries. Nevertheless I have deliberately not responded to questions about suggestions for solar chargers, even though my system works and is pretty light. I still can't get past the orange BG embarrassment. Maybe if the show ends I can get a version without them.
