Mar 30, 2014 at 9:00 am #2087680Screw the millennials. The old arrowhead version works and looks just fine. Can't we ever have a traditional anything in this country? Always changing things for changes sake. Effen marketing.
Mar 30, 2014 at 9:15 am #2087683I think 40+ years from now, the new logo will look like the "cool and hep logo" used in the 1960s! (The ugly one with the three dots): Something that seems dated, has not aged well and is very much a product of its time.
"Wow..that old logo looks like something from the 20-teens!"
I would not be surprised if the NPS reverts back to a version of the old logo sometime in the next decade.
Mar 30, 2014 at 10:33 am #2087707When I worked at a federal job (NASA) the new managerial types, particularly the one's in Washington, always "reorganized" everything when they came on. This basically amounted to taking the existing hierarchical "map" of the institution, renaming and sometimes regrouping different departments without changing anything at all. No substantive changes in what we did, and no changes at all in chain of command or staff switches. Nothing! Just new names. This seemed to happen on a more or less regular cycle of 2-years with the changes in the managers in DC.
While this re-naming of everything had no actual function at all, it did allow the managers to put on their resume that that they "reorganized" the division under their control during their tenure. Heaven forbid they should have done nothing – how would they get their next managerial position in 2 years? It had the additional advantage they it kept them too busy to screw anything important up.
Anyway, I'm guessing this change might be the same type of thing. "During my tenure I made major improvements in NPS branding and marketing updating our approach for the 21st century". The good news is the next time a new manager comes on they can change the logos back to the nice old ones as evidence that they did something important … or at least something.
FWIW I like the old ones – the older the better. If they go back to the WPA era I get goosebumps.

Mar 30, 2014 at 3:06 pm #2087787Hang on a moment there! Stop and think!
If we can keep the managers occupied with changing the appearance of the logo, that just might divert them from doing anything destructive to the Service itself.
Cheers
Apr 1, 2014 at 1:11 pm #2088478That's funny….I saw the new logo and it looked nothing like the one posted in the OP's link. It looked like this:
