Hi all,
I'd like to request that BPL add a PayPal option for payments. Why? After the Target Visa fiasco I'm pulling back on giving individual merchants my credit card information. I've recently stopped shopping at some online merchants due to this. I think it's better for me to use PayPal at this point – well at least it limits my risk.
Thanks.

2) PayPal doesn't get you very much protection. Due diligence is Way better.
4) Just get another card for internet only. (Although I also use that card for traveling for the same reasons.)

May 4, 2014 at 7:27 am #2099015I am a new subscriber, although not a new member. Been lurking for a while, so please judge when you don't see any posts. Having just this morning decided to spring for the life time membership, I had the same thoughts as the OP. I don't have ANY credit cards, I recently just paid them all off and they had all been previously closed, due to a rather unfortunate situation with my now ex-wife (I don't need to go into details).
In any case, the only "cards" I have are attached to my checking/saving accounts and I am rather weary of using those for online purchases given the rise in attacks on credit card data recently. To say that PayPal doesn't get you very much protection is a rather presumptuous statement. It gets you at least a single level of security/obscurity between the vendor (you), and my card information. I'm sure your server admins are great, but I somehow doubt they put as much resources into security as PayPal does.
You say, "get another card." Well I can't, and I really don't want to, to be honest. I know there are pre-paid card options, and kinds of ridiculous offers that pretend to cater to people with bad credit but charge insane rates. No thanks, I have a great job and I prefer to pay for everything up front (cash) if at all possible. That said, I cringe having to give out my card numbers to online outfits (vendors, subscription services, etc) who's security practices cannot be reasonably assumed and/or verified.
Maybe you have some other moral or philosophical reasons for not accepting paypal, and I certainly can understand and wont argue that. But I just hope you all consider that other forms of payment would be quite welcome, for many more reason I'm sure, than the one I have just given.

If you are talking about paying for membership, I'd guess a check in the mail would get the job done.
If you are talking about others here or on-line vendors, set up a PayPal account linked to a checking account. It has nothing to do with BPL.
May 13, 2014 at 9:12 pm #2102158Millions of people find PayPal a very convenient method to pay for goods and services. When I purchase, if there is a PayPal option, I always pick PayPal. It is more convenient and timely for me. Ever notice that many, many Gear Swap sellers prefer PayPal? RJ might want to take notice of this.
Jun 30, 2014 at 6:31 am #2116029I recently contacted BPL and was allowed to use PayPal to renew my membership. I forget the details but it worked.
