I guess everybody knows this, but there is typically a much better view of the GPS satellites toward the Equator. So, if you are in the Northern Hemisphere and you stand with your body to the South of the GPS antenna, you are limiting how many satellites can be found. It may be a little, or it may be a lot, and it varies all the time. If you are able to hold the thing up high, like around head level, then almost immediately this problem goes away. Also, you want to know where the actual GPS antenna is within the device and how it is oriented. It works best if pointed up.

RTFM.
Know your "tools" and how to use them.

Greg, I believe the phrase is this:
There is a fool who can overcome any foolproof scheme.
Unfortunately, part of the problem is that some new users do not have any context to interpret this new skill. Fortunately, there are many resources on the web. Too many new users will skim through new material as they look for their single narrow answer. Instead, if they sit back and study the entire topic, they may find a deeper understanding.

Dec 10, 2013 at 9:20 pm #2053073There was a thread in August about the Rescue Me, but not too much info there.
Being smaller and lighter, with longer claimed battery life, and some nice features, is there a reason it's not been mentioned to WW? Some of you are quite up to date on PLBs. Maybe you can comment. -
