I just completed two week-long hikes in monsoonal New Mexico, late August into September. It was the first time I have experienced rash on the center of my back, no doubt caused by my backpack rubbing up against my shirt, extra heat and sweat.
I've always used Dynaglide to rid other sensitive areas of my body from this painful injury. But found that (1) it was really hard to reach the area for treatment and (2) not sure that Dynaglide was that helpful.
As soon as I returned from trail and wasn't wearing backpack, rash cleared up quickly.
Might add that I was hiking with an old GG Murmur and using a GG closed-cell foam pad for both my sleeping needs and the backpack support.
Thought and hoped that someone on here might have some success with treating a similar dilemma.
Thanks,
b.d.wrenSep 10, 2013 at 11:37 am #2023720Could have been a heat rash, but my advice would be to get a medical diagnosis next time that happens, no telling what might have caused the rash, you could be allergic to foam or synthetics, and what you were wearing my be important also, and it could be diet related in combination with the above.

Your question belongs in General Backpacking as weird as that sounds. There is no medical sub forum.
Sep 10, 2013 at 1:05 pm #2023742Just been informed, correctly I think, that this post should be in General Backpacking. Don't know how to move it, so maybe someone can help.
I do agree what I've been experiencing is induced by heat/sweat and some friction of material against back.
I'm looking for a method to prevent/treat the issue. I think it ought to be straight forward enough and I bet there are many who have.
Thanks!
