Planning a week long trip for early December, leaving from San Diego. Any Californians have input on December hiking conditions / recommendations for places to go? We're willing to drive as far north as San Francisco but imagine it would get pretty cold that far north. We're not skilled or equipped for winter mountaineering so hoping to find something fairly tame.
Big sur area would probably be nice if a storm isn't going to roll through. Same could be said for Santa Barbara/Ventura area hikes. Maybe a desert locale? Joshua tree, Death Valley, Anza borrego. Not sure how cold it gets in the desert though.
