We're leaving San Francisco at 1p tomorrow for 4 nights of backpacking.

My wife and I are planning to head to Lassen Volcanic National Park for the long weekend – looping from summit lake around echo lake, etc. bagging Lassen Peak on our way out after a few days of acclimatizing.

But I'm not sure what to make of this heatwave (record highs in Redding not far away), fire warnings, and potential thunderstorms: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.43335959357837&lon=-121.52801513671875.

Anyone have a read on where else in Norcal could be a safe bet this weekend?

We're considering the Lost Coast – making a loop from shelter cove, up into the hills and back since we don't have two cars.

    Recommendations appreciated!

    Thanks!
    Scott

The only places that won't be extremely hot are high elevations.

Lost Coast will be packed with tourists and campers. Still pretty cool temp. wise along the coast.

We were at 10,000 feet above Sonora Pass on Monday, and it was 75 degrees.

    Then we came back down.

Sinkyone in the southern half of Lost Coast is a little further off the beaten path. That might work. We did an out and back a couple of years ago and had a great time. Very hilly, steep.
