"King Range to remain closed until May 31 as manhunt continues:
Speaking from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office temporary command center at the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, Lt. George Cavinta said this morning that it appears the Bureau of Land Management will be maintaining the closure of the King Range National Conservation Area until May 31 for public safety reasons.
The Bureau of Land Management's Arcata Field Office posted online Thursday evening that the conservation area, including the Lost Coast Trail, would be closed until further notice as the search for triple homicide suspect Shane Miller continued in the Mattole Valley area. Law enforcement officials continue to search the area today, but have yet to find any further evidence of the wanted man.

"The search for triple homicide suspect Shane Miller continues this morning. Efforts are a continuation of yesterday’s tactics, consisting of foot searches in the King Range trails and door to door searches of residences and cabins in the Petrolia, Honeydew and Shelter Cove communities. As a reminder there is a 5:00 PM community meeting scheduled at the Honeydew School. The King Range Conservation Area remains temporarily closed to all recreational activities."
May 15, 2013 at 4:53 pm #1986522Thanks for the update. Portlandhikers.org just had a trip report from a couple who were turned away from there last weekend. Scary situation!
May 15, 2013 at 6:05 pm #1986557Been weird in town. No law enforcement vehicles around. Everything is in south county. Graduation this weekend. The Lost Coast trail is a very popular after school destination. Hurt the turnout for the events last weekend as well. Costing much money, manpower. Big, rugged country there. Will be hard to find him.
May 15, 2013 at 10:01 pm #1986639There could still be hikers out there on a long trip with no knowledge of what's going on. That's a scary thought.
