Maybe this has been discussed somewhere else.
The pack less be more content appears to be taking traffic to a completely different domain and not a subpage nested under BPL.com.
Is this intentional? Namely to build something separate and apart from BPL.com?

Jan 3, 2013 at 5:39 am #1940478And you can't get there from here. The button on the top of the forum pages takes you to the coming soon page.
Strategy may be overstating it a bit.Jan 3, 2013 at 5:01 pm #1940624Well, let's get some correct info here. You can get to the blog from BPL, just not from every page. I assume that whoever built BPL didn't use master pages, since the links in the menu banner are inconsistent from page to page. But if you click on "Blog" from the BPL home page and some others, it indeed takes you to the blog.
From the blog, the menu banner at the top takes you to various places on BPL and nowhere else – to the BPL home page, or the articles page, or the subscribe page, etc. So while it seems to be hosted elsewhere, it's really part of the BPL family, so to speak.

I was not speaking so much about the actual coding of the pages as the evident desire, goal, strategy to use new editorial content to drive traffic to what looks like a different site. It kind of feels like a repeat of RyanJordan.com.
If packlessbemore.com is indeed a different site, different project then the management complexity for the whole BPL web enterprise has increased not 2X but X^2. I am not sure this bodes well for things like server response time and defense against spam attacks and perhaps future DOS attacks.
I started coming to BPL for the editorial content. Now I come for the user generated posts, to post queries to specific questions because I know folks here will answer with knowledge and courtesy, and for the occasional article gems from the remaining remn ant of volunteer editors, such as Roger Caffin. I know know more about stoves than I ever knew was possible…
You can tell by the Google rankings that BPL.com is very highly ranked website. Seems like that is an asset worth continual reinvestment if it can indeed be (I hesitate to say) monitized.
