I’m fairly new at ultralite and am considering switching tents. I am interested in the DL Tacoma, both the solo and the 2-person.
I will be using this tent in summer Rockies, Tetons, etc. The ability to withstand summer mountain storms is my concern. I read the reviews but they are not very specific. Does anyone have any opinions or experience with this tent or brand? Thanks.
Alan
Hi Alan-
We haven’t done a review on that tent specifically but here is our review on the DL Tarptent: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/dancing_light_gear_ultralight_brawny_tarptent_review.html
It’s floorless but the review might give somewhat of an indication. I’ve never used a Dancing Light Gear shelter myself.
Check out our single wall tent reviews for more info on single walls in general. http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/single_wall_tents_shelters_review_summary.html
Missing examples are the Tacoma for 2 and the very-stable Tarptent models (check out the Squall 2). One thing to keep in mind is that a catenary (upside down arch) ridgeline will give you more stability in storms.
Best of luck!
