    Hi,
On my search for a desert bivy I just found a site
    http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com

which has some ultralight bivys and tarps.

For the people who don’t need a full featured bivy bag, there bivys could be an alternative to the Vapr bivy ?

    e.g.
    1.35 sil-nylon bottom/ Epic by Nextec top, $115, 6.2 oz.

Maybe this could be interesting for some of you.

    Best regards
    thomas

I’m gonna purchase my first tarp/bivy combo. MLD offers 10% off combo purchase. They have an Epic bivy (Superlight)for $115 with zip. Their cat cut tarp (Shaped Super Tarp) for 2 is $110. $202.50 for combo is not bad. They also have a sale section under the Ordering page. Anyone?

I have also bookmarked and been examining MLD’s offerings for 1-2 weeks now.

However, I have no experience with MLD or their products.

I also plan to contact another small mfr., viz. Moonbow, with my requirements and ask them for price on a custom bivy.

I have one of their bivies, one of their bug bivies and one of their tarps.

well-made, quick shipment, extra material for repairs thrown in, free stuffsack/tarp cord thrown in, etc.

very light and well designed – good stuff. I’m happy.

right now I use a tarp with their bug bivy for a total bug free shelter at just over a pound (bug bivy has silnylon floor and footbox, so no ground sheet needed). if no chance of rain I often just use the bug bivy.

I have a bivy and an early prototype pack from Mountain Laurel Designs. Excellent stuff- both items. Beautifully made.

Further, Ron Bell is a great guy- I ordered my bivy back in his eBay-only days and it was a little small. He made the exchange super-easy and fair and the new one was custom made to fit me perfectly. The guy is a class act.

Look forward to Mountain Laurel Desigs reviews coming out in a special section sometime in the fall…we’ll be testing a few of their products this summer. Sorry- that’s all for now….
