Carry 50' or so of the backing line you used on your reel. Bring a small lead weight (enough to pull the line down). Use your rod and casting skills to launch the weight tied to the backing up over the tree limb where you plan to hang your food. Tie the bear bag hanging line to the lose end of the backing line and pull it up over the limb. No need to throw any more rocks!.
No kidding. I made a sling shot using the method of tarp line tensioners I read about here and two Easton tent stakes. With only one shot I can get line pretty high up into the trees.
