Was wondering if there is any hiking fools that would like to tackle Point Reyes in January. Thinking of a start at the Palomarin trailhead, camping at Wildcat then hiking out the next day to the ranger station. 14 miles total. Anyone game????
Nov 3, 2008 at 6:16 pm #1457481I'd like to go.
JoshNov 3, 2008 at 6:23 pm #1457482ohhh man, wrong section!!! Let's get this going!

Nov 4, 2008 at 10:56 pm #1457621Jay,
I'd like to join you. For years I did a 3 day, 2 night New Years loop from Bear Valley to Sky Camp, Glen Camp and back to BV. It was a blast. We'd bring a tin of Spam and fry it up for a New Years Eve treat. Let me know if you've got an open berth.Nov 6, 2008 at 10:47 am #1457839if the dates are right, i am in as well. i need to know in advance.
i like starting from that trailhead but going down to coast then back along the ridge. its like 30 miles though.
i do that shorter trip though… and what, have a car at the bear valley trailhead?
Nov 9, 2008 at 10:00 pm #1458321I'm already heading out there in January. :-P
Planning on hitting up big sur too
Nov 10, 2008 at 8:21 am #1458347Guys no date is in concrete yet, just throwing this out there to see who is interested. Maybe the second or third week of January would work. If anyone needs a solid date that is no problem. On a side note I did this trip a few years ago and it is a relatively easy hike. Some elevation gain coming out of the camp heading to the Bear Valley Ranger/Visitor Center. Yes there would be need of a car at each trailhead for the shuttle. The two trailheads are about 20-30 minutes drive time apart from one another.
Nov 10, 2008 at 12:49 pm #1458374Hey Ken,
I only live 45 minutes from there so as long as the dates are good for me, I'll be in.Nov 10, 2008 at 9:16 pm #1458458If the dates are right I would be in too. I did an overnight trip to Wildcat from Palomarin last month. It's a great trip.
Nov 11, 2008 at 7:46 am #1458492No problem guys. What about the 2nd Saturday of January???

Sounds like it is going to be a BPL fun fest!
Let's just figure out some dates as we get closer to January and plan this thing out.

Nov 11, 2008 at 1:52 pm #1458552Ryan, we could do the third Saturday if you'd like.
Tony glad to see you in for this! Be nice to put a face to the photos and such. Plus I need to thank you in person for the tip about Tenaya Canyon!!
Nov 24, 2008 at 10:42 am #1460452I was chattin with Ken thru PM's. I'd sign-on with you guys, Josh has been reminding me about it every time we talk, but I just agreed to a work project that full week, both weekends. UGH! An outing the weekend of the 24th would be a great treat after this beast of a project.
If you guys are flexible, keep the 24th in mind. If not, there's plenty of trips to come.
cheers,
-MichaelNov 30, 2008 at 10:40 pm #1461326Hi,

Dec 27, 2008 at 1:36 pm #1466740been cold down here too. Just need that window of the 24th for no rain. If not, then we will figure something out for Febuary or March
Dec 29, 2008 at 11:39 am #1467033Ken,
Thanks for keeping everyone posted on this upcoming trip.
Really looking forward to meet some fellow BPLer's.
Hopefully, future trips like this can be arranged.
It will be a light weight gearfest of show and tell…hehehe.

Dec 29, 2008 at 12:26 pm #1467038In order to put my best lightweight foot forward, for the show and tell, I've been trying to figure out how to drill lightening holes in my down bag. Punching holes in the bowl of my SUL Ti spoon saved .01 ounces.
Dec 29, 2008 at 10:58 pm #1467118Sounds like it will be a great outing!!! Let the Lightweight Games begin.
Jan 1, 2009 at 7:37 pm #1467513Just got back from 3 nights in Point Reyes today. Blue skies every day and warm sunshine. Hope the weather works out for you guys too. :-P
