Just wondering how thin/sheer the pant fabric is. For instance, can items carried in the pocket (such as ID or cash) readily be seen through it? Does underclothing show through?
(And a 3rd lady interested in women's sizing here, Ryan)

Aug 25, 2008 at 11:46 am #1448460Aug 25, 2008 at 12:17 pm #1448468I have 2 questions:
Would you recommend replacing a windshirt w/ the Thorofare clothing? I read that it provides some wind and water resistance but is it enough? Sorry, I know this is a subjective question.
Do the colors look the same on the shirt and pants? From the pictures, it seems they might be slightly different.
Aug 25, 2008 at 12:41 pm #1448472Peter, your question is subjective but I feel confident is recommending that you do NOT consider the Thorofare collection a substitute for a piece of wind gear.
The photos above show two separate colors – – Desert Tan and Dark Sepia. The pant and shirt are available in either of the fabric colors shown.
Aug 25, 2008 at 1:34 pm #1448482Thanks for the reply. From the pictures of the clothing posted, it just looks like there are 3 colors: the shirt appears to be dark sepia, and the pants appear to be 2 additional different colors (they don't look like each other and neither looks like the dark sepia in the shirt). Maybe its just the light? :) It's not a big deal anyhow. I was just curious.
Aug 26, 2008 at 5:58 am #1448572Just a suggestion about unisex sizing….would you consider a shorter length in the pants?
A lot of women have learned to 'settle' for things, Ryan and I don't mean that as an attack on your line of clothing. It's more of a culture thing, I think. But some of us learned to color outside of the box. : )
Men tops usually can fit women but the pants are tougher.
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:14 am #1448575Length isn't just a problem for women Donna. I'm 5'8ish with a long torso and wear a 32-34" waist which means a lot of pants come with a 32"+ length. At best I can get a 30" length which is still a little long. I've just learned to deal with it.
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:14 am #1448576Or longer pants? I need at least a 34" inseam and I'm sure there are some guys out there who do too.
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:24 am #1448578Here's the solution:
People that need a shorter length, hem your pants and save the cut off fabric. Post it on the gear swap forum at shipping cost. People that need a longer length can get it there and lengthen their pants. Everyone is happy.

Aug 26, 2008 at 7:08 am #1448583Now that's what community is all about, Chris!
Aug 26, 2008 at 9:25 am #1448595Ha! Chris, I thought of making low gaiters with the leftover material!
We're such a difficult bunch to please.
Aug 26, 2008 at 12:44 pm #1448621The BPL logo is attractive but I'm not a huge fan of logos on my clothes. I can't tell for sure if the shirt has a logo on it. It seems to be there in some pictures but not others. Can someone at BPL confirm this?
I need a shirt, but would like to get something as close to white as possible. Also, any chance of pictures of the shirt in the lighter tan color? Thanks!
Edit- is the desert tan shirt the same shade of tan as the desert tan trekking pants depicted for sale?
Aug 26, 2008 at 3:08 pm #1448655Sigh… the shirt and the pants have a bright white logo on them. Grr. It would have been nice if the logo wasn't there, or at least the description mentioned the logo.
Aug 26, 2008 at 9:00 pm #1448703I am also interested in the Thorofare pants and shirt but am not sure about sizing, fit.
So…am adding my name to the list of women interested in a future line of "woman's" clothing.

I second this question. Is there any way the colors could be labeled on the product pages for the shirt and pants for my possibly color-blind eyes? :)
Aug 27, 2008 at 12:41 pm #1448809The Thorofare Collection comes in two styles and two colors. There is both a shirt and a pant available. Each of these is available in either Desert Tan (tan) or Dark Sepia (brown).
Desert Tan
Dark SepiaAug 27, 2008 at 12:49 pm #1448810Yup, the logo is a deal-killer for me too. Sigh. I don't suppose it's removeable??
Aug 27, 2008 at 1:29 pm #1448819What clothing do you buy that doesn't have a logo on it?
Aug 27, 2008 at 1:47 pm #1448826>What clothing do you buy that doesn't have a logo on it?
As much as possible. A lot of outdoor clothing I buy has sewn on patches that I can remove. If I can't remove it and I really REALLY want it anyway, I might resort to puttin an innocuous patch to cover it. I only wear logos if the company is sponsoring me to wear it. I don't PAY to advertise for a company.
Aug 27, 2008 at 1:55 pm #1448831RE: women's sizing, I can't see any problem at all with something being too long. Hemming is easy. Much better too long than too short. I prefer the cut of men's clothing in any event, so I won't be voting for a women's range. And I don't like long sleeve shirts, but again it's easy to turn long sleeve into a short sleeve rather than the other way around! I could use the left over fabric to make a second pocket so I won't need to wear a bra, plus I could use the spare fabric to cover over the logo…hmmmm, maybe these won't be so bad after all???
Aug 27, 2008 at 2:30 pm #1448844The Penobscot Indians used to wear the fur of the muskrat with the tail and legs still attached. Also, the head would be left on to form a little pouch around the waist, into which would go fishing tackle and the like.
Now we hem and haw over the branding sewn onto synthetic garments we pay someone else to make for us. This, of course, is progress, and small price to pay, I guess, for those who won't wear beaver.

Not just synthetics. BPL UL merino clothing also has branding on it. Where I live there is a dire shortage of beavers…you might even say they are extinct. Apparently the indigenous peoples on these islands used woven flax leaves and birds feathers to keep warm. Of course, many of those birds are now endangered or extinct, so I doubt it would be ethical or legal to dress like our ancestors (though there's still plenty of flax leaves to be had).
